I went to purchase more bitcoin and before letting me buy, they wanted me to answer some questions. This has never happened before and I'm a little hesitant now. They say it's only to protect my account, but I trust no one.

Had this happened to anyone else?

Are there any alternatives I can use?

I don't use MoonPay but every so often or when I transact a lot more than usual on an exchange they ask me these type of questions.  It's standard KYC or Know Your Customer.  Happens even on an exchange I have used for a decade especially when NFT's were hot and I was taking profits.

My friend uses Moonpay and they were asking him all these personal questions about who are these people you’re ordering from, what’s the address for them. Etc…. My friend told them where to go cause it’s not their business on what he is buying and why do they need to know the addresses of the merchant? He just said delete my account for reasons you’re asking me for personal information and you have not done this in years. It’s not right. I don’t blame him.
